Why a Circuit breaker is safer than a Fuse box.

A circuit breaker is an automatic electric switch which protects an electrical circuit from damage caused by excess current. This is similar to what a fuse does, except a circuit breaker can be reset instead of needing to have a fuse replaced. This is the main advantage of our Circuit breaker equipped Fuse board compared to most fuse boards installed in Irish homes.

Fuses are unreliable ancient technology that are inefficient at predicting and protecting homeowners from overcurrent. Overcurrent is what happens when a circuit has too much electric current and a fuse should blow. However, fuses are just small strips of metal that should melt when overcurrent occurs although the melting point of this metal can vary, and in some fuses the metal just doesn’t melt at all meaning there is no overcurrent protection.

A circuit breaker not only has the benefit of being resettable and not costing anything when overcurrent does occur, it also measures the amperage within the circuit more accurately and is guaranteed to provide reliable safety to your home.

Our fuse boards are also fitted with RCD (residual current devices). An extra safety device that comes alongside the benefits of a circuit breaker, these will shut down whole sections of your homes electricity if they detect an imbalance of current. This is stop electrical problems before they even begin, they rarely occur but are an extra safety precaution implemented in recent years.

A Modern Fuse board from Fuseboard.ie is easily hundreds of times safer than any of the older fuse board models installed in most Irish homes today.
